Course Calendar

We will move through the texts in roughly chronological order. The novels will be supplemented each week by short stories and nonfiction primary texts as is appropriate.

Weeks 1 & 2: Introducing the Course and Period

During these weeks, we will negotiate the reading list and schedule as necessary. Those of you with special interests or ideas are welcome to propose additions and amendments, all of which we will discuss as a class. We will also collaborate on some aspects of the class’s format: break times, presentations, lectures, etc.

We will also spend some of our class time situating ourselves in the period by reading a few introductions and articles; becoming familiar with a timeline of important events; getting to know notable characters; and building a shared hoard of terms, movements, people, and events.
