Exhibit Directive: Pedagogy Portfolio/Professional Teaching Website

  1. Design a Digital Teaching Portfolio that you can use as a job candidate on the academic market to showcase your teaching. Please include a teaching philosophy statement, a description of the courses you’ve taught, and 3-4 sample syllabi (including the materials mentioned below in item 2). Optional: summary of student evaluations and feedback, conference presentations on teaching, and samples of student work.
  1. Create 3-4 sample syllabi of your own. Be sure to include an introduction to each syllabus along with a course calendar, major and minor writing assignments with evaluation/assessment criteria, and some weekly lesson plans. Syllabi can be created for a first-year writing course, a survey course, an upper-level undergraduate course, and/or a graduate course.
  1. Write a rationale for one syllabus in which you justify your pedagogical choices, especially those related to writing, via best practices in rhetoric and composition. Specifically highlight how you are working to promote student agency, access, and transfer in the conception, format, and content of the course.
